
President of Port Said University Receives Delegation from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to Explore Strategic Academic and Research Collaboration
Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, welcomed a delegation from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to discuss prospects for academic and research cooperation and to lay the groundwork for a future strategic partnership agreement between the two institutions.
The visit reflects Port Said University’s commitment to expanding its international partnerships and strengthening collaboration with leading global universities in support of academic excellence, scientific research, innovation, and sustainable development.
The delegation met with faculty members from the Faculties of Engineering and Commerce in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Kamel, Supervisor of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector; Prof. Dr. Heba Youssef Soliman, Director of the University Career Development Center and Head of the University Training Unit; Prof. Dr.Ehab El-Hanafy, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Assistant Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Beheiry, Coordinator of International Relations with Chinese Universities; and members of the University’s International Relations Team.
The HKUST delegation included Professor Ge Lin Kan, Head of the Urban Governance and Design Group; Assistant Prof. Wufan Zhao; Prof. Xiaofeng Liu, specialists in Urban Governance and Design; and Ms. Lidong Rao, Africa Coordinator at the University’s Global Affairs Department.
Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in Urban Governance and Financial Technology (FinTech), as well as joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programs, and the development of academic and professional training initiatives that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
During the visit, the delegation toured the University Career Development Center and was introduced to its advanced training and technological facilities, as well as its programs designed to enhance students’ employability and readiness for both local and international labor markets.
The delegation expressed its admiration for the remarkable academic and research progress achieved by Port Said University and praised its promising capabilities and forward-looking vision. They also conveyed their enthusiasm for establishing a productive and long-term partnership that would create valuable opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty members from both institutions.
The visit concluded with a meeting between Professor Sherif Youssef Saleh and the delegation, during which commemorative plaques were exchanged as a symbol of the growing academic relationship between the two universities. The meeting also addressed the next steps toward signing a formal cooperation agreement in the near future.
Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh emphasized that international partnerships are a cornerstone of advancing higher education and scientific research, expressing his aspiration that this visit will mark the beginning of a fruitful strategic collaboration with HKUST in research, innovation, and academic exchange.
For his part, Prof. Ge Lin Kan praised the university’s academic environment, research achievements, and infrastructure, highlighting the strong potential for cooperation in urban governance, financial technology, and interdisciplinary research, and reaffirming HKUST’s interest in building a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership with Port Said University.
