
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, participated in the periodic meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, held at Minia University and chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, and council members.
The meeting addressed key priorities for the new academic year, including ensuring regular attendance across university leadership, faculty, supporting staff, and administrative personnel; implementing student activities; maximizing the societal impact of scientific research; and strengthening university-industry cooperation.
Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa also emphasized continued efforts to internationalize higher education through expanded academic and research partnerships, joint programs, dual degrees, and student and faculty exchanges.
The Minister highlighted the progress of Egyptian universities in international rankings, including the inclusion of 27 Egyptian universities in the 2026 Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects, with 135 entries across 27 scientific fields, compared with 25 universities and 126 entries across 24 fields in 2025. He also noted the inclusion of 47 Egyptian universities in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, up from 38 in 2025.
The Council further reviewed university reports on research and innovation, patents, governance, and performance development, supporting the advancement and international competitiveness of Egyptian higher education.
