Port Said University Hosts “Port Said: City of Sustainable Culture” Conference, Reinforcing Its Leadership in Community Development

Port Said University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, hosted the conference “Port Said: City of Sustainable Culture,” organized by the Port Said Historical Society, chaired by Mr. Ayman Gabr, under the theme “Transforming Port Said into a City of Sustainable Culture.”

The event brought together a distinguished group of experts, academics, public figures, and media personalities, including Major General Dr. Samir Farag, strategic expert; Dr. Mohamed El-Kahlawy, President of the Arab Council of the Union of Arab Archaeologists; Dr. Dalila El-Kordany, Professor of Architecture and Heritage Expert at Cairo University; and prominent media figure Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy.

Discussions focused on harnessing Port Said’s rich historical and heritage assets to promote sustainable development and strengthen the city’s cultural and tourism profile. Abdel Rahman Basla, Secretary-General of the Port Said Historical Society, noted that the conference featured an exhibition of artworks created by more than 50 young artists participating in the competition “Historic Port Said Through the Eyes of an Artist,” organized by the Society’s Arts Committee, chaired by artist Mohsen Serry. Winners and participants were honored during the event.

Following the conference, Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh met with the distinguished guests to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the university and civil society organizations in support of cultural and developmental initiatives. Participants emphasized that Port Said possesses unique cultural, historical, and tourism assets that qualify it to become a leading model for cultural sustainability.

Mr. Ayman Gabr expressed his appreciation to Port Said University for hosting the conference and providing all necessary support for its success. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to community service and his continuous support for cultural and developmental initiatives, the Port Said Historical Society presented its honorary shield to Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh.

Both Major General Dr. Samir Farag and Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy praised the remarkable progress achieved by Port Said University, affirming that it has become a successful model for higher education institutions with a clear vision for development. They noted that the achievements realized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh reflect a modern and ambitious administrative approach that has enhanced the university’s reputation nationally and internationally.

Concluding the conference, Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh emphasized that transforming Port Said into a city of sustainable culture is a national project rooted in the city’s rich history and unique heritage. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting cultural and community initiatives and strengthening its role as a key partner in sustainable development, public awareness, and the preservation of national identity.
