Supreme Council of Universities at the New Capital

Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, participated today, Sunday, 26 July 2026, in the periodic meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, held at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the New Administrative Capital and chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansouh, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, in the presence of Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary of the Council, and the Council’s members.

The Council reviewed preparations for the upcoming electronic university admissions process, stressing the importance of ensuring the readiness of university computer labs and providing full technical support to students throughout the coordination period.

Discussions also focused on strengthening universities’ role in promoting intellectual and cultural awareness, combating extremist ideologies, advancing research, development and innovation, and accelerating the transformation of research outcomes into economically valuable applications that support Egypt’s knowledge economy.

The meeting highlighted universities’ ongoing commitment to green transformation, including energy and water conservation, the expansion of renewable energy use, and the adoption of sustainable practices in line with Egypt’s sustainable development goals.

Among the Council’s key decisions were the adoption of a comprehensive framework for evaluating the performance of Egyptian universities, and the discussion of a new innovation-based promotion track for faculty members to encourage impactful research and innovation.

The Council also reviewed the progress of international academic cooperation agreements, sustainability initiatives, international ranking strategies, and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank’s continuous training programmes aimed at enhancing the quality and global visibility of Egyptian scientific journals.
