Prof. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, met with Prof. Petra De Sutter, President of Ghent University, to discuss expanding academic and research cooperation, as well as faculty and student exchanges. The meeting was held during the Port Said University President’s visit to Ghent University, following the signing of an exchange agreement between the Faculties of Medicine at both universities.
The 75-minute meeting was attended by Prof. Annelies Verdoolaege, Director of International Relations for the Africa Platform at Ghent University; Prof. Aymon Kreil, Professor at Ghent University’s Faculty of Arts and Philosophy; and Prof. Ahmed Hassan Anwar, Advisor to the President of Port Said University for International Relations.
The discussions highlighted existing cooperation, including joint publications, translation projects, workshops, and a joint scientific seminar on the Port Laboratory at Port Said University held in February 2026, as well as Prof. Annelies Verdoolaege’s participation in the First International Conference of the Faculty of Arts at Port Said University during the same month.
The two sides also discussed plans to establish a joint research center at Port Said University’s Faculty of Medicine focusing on the early detection of chronic diseases, creating opportunities for joint research projects and scientific expertise exchange.
Prof. Aymon Kreil commended the development of Port Said University and emphasized the importance of expanding academic and research collaboration. A master’s student from Ghent University’s Faculty of Arts and Philosophy is also set to undertake a full-semester study program at Port Said University from October to December 2026, with a curriculum tailored to her field through cooperation between professors from both universities.
Prof. Aymon Kreil further announced his intention to visit Port Said University in November 2026 as a visiting professor, where he will organize a joint workshop and deliver an academic lecture.
The meeting reflects Port Said University’s commitment to transforming international agreements into practical academic programs, research partnerships, and tangible faculty and student exchanges, strengthening sustainable international cooperation between the two universities.
