
Port Said University welcomed an official delegation from the Chinese government headed by Mr. Xu Qing (舒庆), Vice Mayor of Shanghai and a member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. The delegation included representatives from Shanghai University and the China-Arab Center for Reform and Development.
This visit comes as part of China’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Egyptian-Chinese relations, particularly in the fields of science, education, and culture—placing Port Said University among the key partners in this cooperation.
The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Kamel Farah, Vice President for Community Service Affairs and Head of the University’s International Relations Unit; Prof. Dr. Sherifa Fadel Balat, Professor of International Relations specializing in Chinese affairs and Coordinator of Chinese Relations at the University; Prof. Dr. Heba Soliman, Director of the University Center for Professional Development; along with members of the International Relations Unit including Dr. Mohamed El-Beheiry, Dr. Basma Nashat, and Dr. Marwa Ibrahim.
During the meeting, both sides discussed potential avenues for cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, with a focus on promoting Chinese and Confucian culture, supporting academic and cultural exchange programs, and encouraging joint research projects between Port Said University, Shanghai University, and the China Development Center—particularly in industrial and applied research fields.
The Chinese delegation expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and praised both the city of Port Said and Port Said University for their vision and commitment to international collaboration.
The visit concluded with an invitation from Professor Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, along with Professor Mohamed Kamel and the International Relations team, to visit Shanghai University to discuss the details of the proposed cooperation programs. Professor Saleh emphasized his hope to further strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two universities.
In a message to the visiting delegation, Professor Sherif Youssef Saleh, President of Port Said University, expressed his pleasure in receiving the Vice Mayor of Shanghai and his accompanying delegation. He praised the deep-rooted and expanding relations between Egypt and the People’s Republic of China, reaffirming the university’s commitment to enhancing academic, research, and cultural partnerships with Chinese institutions of higher education.
