President of Port Said University: Building an International Research Identity for the Engineering, Science and Technology Sector

Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University, held an extensive meeting with members of the Engineering, Science and Technology Sector, in the presence of the sector’s deans, General Supervisor, faculty members, and teaching assistants, to follow up on academic and research development plans and strengthen integration among the sector’s faculties

The University President emphasized that the reorganization of the university’s sectors aims to enhance efficiency, accelerate communication, and promote greater integration among faculties and disciplines. He also highlighted the opportunities for active participation provided by the working groups implementing the university’s strategic plan.

Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh stressed that investment in human capital is a key pillar of the university’s strategy, noting the distinguished academic expertise and promising young researchers within the Engineering, Science and Technology Sector and their potential to advance the university’s international academic and research standing.

Regarding scientific research, he directed efforts toward building a clear international research identity for the sector, based on interdisciplinary collaboration and research addressing national, regional, and Port Said Governorate challenges, while transforming academic research into impactful applied projects.

He also emphasized strengthening partnerships with industry leaders, business representatives, and the Sector’s Advisory Council to identify industrial needs and translate them into applicable research and innovation projects. He called for greater use of international funding programs, expanded partnerships with global universities and research institutions, increased international publications and research collaboration, and improved performance in international rankings.

The meeting also addressed the importance of establishing genuine partnerships with industrial institutions and executive bodies to align education and research outcomes with labor market needs and development priorities, while maximizing the use of the university’s scientific and human resources.

On the educational and student front, the University President stressed the importance of positive communication and guidance, enabling students to choose their majors according to their abilities and interests, and ensuring that they are well informed about academic programs, courses, training opportunities, and career prospects.

Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh further affirmed that Port Said University’s resources are shared resources serving all members of the university, calling for greater integration among faculties and sectors and the optimal utilization of available resources.

The meeting featured an open and constructive dialogue, during which the University President listened to the concerns and suggestions of faculty members and teaching assistants and discussed appropriate solutions.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh emphasized that direct communication with university members is a fundamental approach to university management, announcing that such meetings will continue periodically to follow up on progress, achievements, challenges, and proposals.
