Port Said University Hosts Two-Day Visit by Minister of Higher Education and Local Leaders

Inauguration of University Hospital, Educational Projects, and Launch of “Engaz” Company

Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, conducted an extensive two-day visit to Port Said University, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Religious Endowments; Major General Moheb Habashi, Governor of Port Said; Major General Mohamed Assaf, Commander of the Second Field Army; Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh, President of Port Said University; and several senior officials, ministry, and university.

Day One Highlights:

  • Inauguration of Port Said University Hospital, one of the largest university medical facilities in the Suez Canal and Sinai region, built at a cost of nearly 1 billion EGP on a 36,000 sqm site. The hospital includes:
  • 540 beds (427 inpatient – 113 intensive care, emergency, isolation, and recovery)
  • 16 operating rooms, 31 outpatient clinics, 6 endoscopy rooms, 5 laboratories, 15 radiology rooms, 15 lecture halls
    • Prof. Dr. Ashour highlighted that university hospitals are the backbone of medical education in Egypt and are undergoing unprecedented modernization.
    • Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Azhari praised the hospital’s advanced equipment, and Governor Moheb Habashi emphasized its role as a health, educational, and research landmark.
    • Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh confirmed the hospital provides advanced medical services for Port Said, the Canal governorates, and Sinai, alleviating pressure on public hospitals.
    • Opening of the renovated university studio at the Faculty of Specific Education at a cost of 21 million EGP, serving as a training platform in digital media and content creation.
    • Evening cultural celebration at the Cultural Center, featuring student performances, the university choir, poetry recitals, and participation of international students and students with disabilities. Distinguished students and guests were honored.

Day Two Highlights:

  • Minister Ashour chaired the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, reviewing 2025 performance: services provided to 32 million citizens, 76% of advanced surgeries performed, 658,000 surgical procedures, including 393,000 advanced surgeries, along with progress on hospital automation and the unified medical record system.
    • Chairing the Supreme Council of Universities, the Minister emphasized exam readiness, activation of research centers and innovation incubators, encouragement of international scientific publication, and support for applied research aligned with sustainable development goals.
    • Launch of “Engaz Port Said University”, linking academic studies with practical application, under the slogan: “Investing in Minds… Building Assets”. Prof. Dr. Sherif Saleh described it as the university’s executive arm for project implementation.

Inauguration of Major Projects:

  • Olympic swimming pool complex, Faculty of Sports Sciences – 123 million EGP
  • New administrative building – 283 million EGP
  • Phase one of university dormitory development – 30 million EGP
  • Inspection of the University Career Development Center
  • Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour emphasized that these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to an integrated educational environment, digital transformation, and linking education to the job market, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
